William E. Baycroft

Bill Baycroft started his involvement in the marine industry early in 1967 as a recruit in the Royal Canadian Navy. As a military Marine Engineer / Underwater Diver, he began his 40 year relationship with the ocean, boating and his busy career in the world of yachts.
After plenty of sea time and an Honorable Discharge from the RCN in 1971, Bill traveled Europe, Northern Africa, the Middle East and South America, becoming an experienced shipwright and boat builder, before returning to his childhood home of Orillia Canada. It was in the Georgian Bay area of Canada where Bill (son of well known Canadian Underwater Archeologist Gene W. Baycroft ), learned to truly appreciate life on the water, learn and respect high quality boatbuilding.
By the late1970's Bill became nationally well known as a shipwright, ships carver and small boat builder. William E. Baycroft Marine was created and developed into a thriving shipwright and small boatbuilding business, including a Canadian warranty and commissioning depot for Chein Hwa Boatworks of Taipei, Taiwan. These were the beginnings of today's popularity of Asian built Trawler Yachts.
Adding to his already diversified career as a boat builder, Bill developed fiberglass and wooden boatbuilding training programs for Canada Manpower and the Ontario Apprenticeship Board.
Moving to the west coast of Canada in 1989 Bill became Assistant GM. of KMW International, a Canadian/Japanese joint venture, at Silva Bay Marina and Shipyard on Gabriola Island, British Columbia. At Silva Bay, he purchased the 104' LOA brigantine "Spirit of Chemainus" from SALTS of Victoria, and ran a thriving repair business at the shipyard.
Two years later,as Principal Builder at Cape Marine Corporation he built and refurbished several sailing vessels with his son Tash Baycroft, until becoming GM of Park Isle Marine Ltd. in Victoria B.C Canada. For the next 7 years Bill felt privileged to play a major role in the development and building of custom Royal Passagemaker Luxury Trawler Yachts, with Roy Parkinson, President of Park Isle Marine Ltd., at the helm.
With the popularity of Asian built vessels spiraling upward and North American builds declining, Bill was invited and relocated to mainland China, as Joinery Production Manager for the newly formed Custom Marine International. At the time, CMI' s order book boasted several Superyachts from 100' to 250'.
A year later, Bill became founding G.M. of IAG Yachts Group, China's newest and potentially largest Superyacht company, located in Shenzhen China. IAG secured a new shipyard location at nearby Zhuhai, and Bill's efforts focused toward the collaboration of a new 127' FRP Tri-Deck Motor Yacht, that would allow IAG Yachts to produce a successful global entry vessel.
The required balance of proven experience and cost effectiveness was achieved through Seaforth Marine Group of Vancouver, Canada. The IAG 127', "Emma", big sister to the Seaforth / Harling thoroughbred 115', came to life at a key concepts meeting held at Seaforth Marine offices in Vancouver Canada in Dec. 2005. Naval Architecture was headed up by Winston Pynn NA, and the splendid interior design by Coralee Huffman.
Upon completion of the basic design package by Seaforth, Bill assembled IAG's ‘In-House team” of Chinese nationals to complete the design details and proceed with classification through Rina.
Happy with the design, but eager to fly his own flag, Bill left IAG to start his new business, Yacht Consultants Asia (HK) Ltd, and has since been offering the services of it's crew and team of Associates, to yacht owners and manufactures worldwide.
